Hi, my name is Wilfred Mouland , from Bonavista and now living in Hawkes Bay, Nfld. My great uncle brothers left Bonavista and settled in Sydney, N.S. I think Adam and Elias were a couple of them. Peter also was mentioned. Maybe if you let me know some of their names I may be able to help you.

Regards,
Wilfred Mouland

In relation to where the name comes from, I am searching my Mouland ancestors who all seem to be in the Hampshire and Dorset area of England. My branch commences in 1650 in Breamore Hampshire on the western edge of the New Forest. I believe all the Moulands in England stem from this area and are one family. At some time elements of the family seem to have emigrated to the USA/Canada. Certainly I know a distant cousin moved to the Niagra Falls area of Canada circa 1900, but I think they were there well before this. My grandfather, who I must admit was notorious for stretching the truth, said that the Moulands came over to England from Holland at the time of William III. Make of this what you will, although I could believe the name has Dutch connotations.

I also have a uncle named Hubert who was killed in WWII. I have a step brother in Bonavista named Tib Mouland. I was born in Canada but lived in the states all my life. I would like to take my family to Bonavista to meet relatives that I haven't seen since the 60s.

It does seem that the Mouland family comes from Holland or France depending on who was winning a war at the time. There is a town called Moellingen I believe or Mouland as it is also called. Right now it is in Holland. My ancestors are from Bonavista and can trace back to Dorset region I believe. We settled in bonavista and Sydney Nova Scotia.
