emigrants to North Carolina
Where in North Carolina did your Gribbles of Camborne live?
I ask because my William Jenkin emigrated from Illogan about the same time, going to Gold Hill, Rowan County, North Carolina.
When he married (1843) he lived at Pengegon, most likely mining at Dolcoath - a Camborne mine.
If yours went to this same area of N.C., I wonder if they mnight have been part of a group who emigrated together?
I have no information on a Samuel Gribble but would sure like to hear from any Gribbles around Camborne, Cornwall.
My great grandfather, John Gribble was born in England
8 December l8l8. Do not know his parents names. They lived
in North Carolina, USA around l845 and later moved to Kentucky,USA in l880. Thanks.

She was born in Cornwall, England, Jan. 29th AD 1824.
Departed this life June 20th AD 1842(49). Aged 25 years and 6 months.

Also, you might want to leave room that your Gribble marriage to Piper, if turns out to be Phifer...might indeed be Pheiffer. This is a very well-known name in this area of NC, and I believe has *German* origins. This area of NC has a lot of German heritage, too...so possibly your Gribble married this Piper/poss. Pheiffer in North Carolina, rather than in Cornwall. A check of Rowan marriage records might prove fruitful.
Hope this helps,
This is great! So it would appear your Gribbles were in Gold Hill *before* moving to High Point!
Maybe your Gribbles and my Jenkins came to Gold Hill together!
Have you checked the 1850 Rowan Co Census to see if they were in Gold Hill then?
The little information I have on the Gribbles is my grandfather,Charles N. Gribble, was born in High Point,N.C.
on 8 July l86l and two of his sisters were born l845 and l846 in Gold Hill. I was told his father, John D. Gribble
and Jane Piper,(Fifer or Phifer)his wife, were born in
England. Lately I found information John was born and christened in Camborne,Cornwall, England on 26 Dec l8l8. His
parents were William and Elizabeth Gribble.Sure would like
to know more about this. Thanks.
I found this today in the 1880 census, Rowan County, Gold Hill, North Carolina:
MARTIN, Benjamin T. (or poss. "J"), 45, farmer, b. England, parents b England.
____Peninnah A., 37, wife, born England, both parents b. England
____William H., 16, son , b. NC; parents b. Engl
____Suasan H. 11, daur, b. NC, parents b. Engl
____David L., 7, son, b NC, parents b. Engl
____John Q.C., 4, son, b. NC, parents b. Engl
____James F., 1, son, b.NC, parents b. Engl
GRIBBLE, Mary, 82, mother in law, b. Eng, parents b. England
Hope this is of some help!
coordinator, Cornwall Query Forum
These people don't seem to be directly related to my ancestor, Charles Nicholas Gribble, but could well be a part
of the families that came to N.C. Since I posted my original
query, I have received information on this family back to the l500's. Thanks to Sandy for passing on my notice.
Sure wish I could find someone to look in l860 N.C. census
for Charles's family. His father, John D. Gribble came from
England early in l800's and may have married a Jane Piper or
Phiffer in N.C.
