I am looking for information on the Muzyka family and the Zalepka family. The ancestral villages in Ukraine today are Zalyp'ya
and Potik not far from Rohatyn in the Ivano-Frankivska Oblast.

Mary Muzyka was born 28 May 1882 in I believe Potik. She immigrated to New York and to Newark or Hillside, New Jersey in the USA prior to 1914, but did go back to her village in 1920-1922. She married Nikolaj Zalepka either here in New Jersey or in Ukraine. She died in Hillside, NJ on 28 Mar 1964.

Nikolaj (Zalypka) Zalepka was born 14 Dec 1886 in I believe Zalyp'ya, Ukraine.
I have a Military booklet for him that shows he served for someone else, possibly, in Europe.
He died 18 Dec 1963 in Hillside, New Jersey. Does anyone know of Zalepka's and Muzyka's from this area?

Original ship manifest shows Nikolaj (probably originally Mykolaj), 28 yrs old, is traveling w/his wife Marya, 30 yrs old. His mother's name is listed as Irena (Iryna), left behind in Zalipie. They were heading to NJ. Manifest indicates he was later naturalized.

Thank you again. I have seen the second group of Zalypkas from Czercse, but wasn't sure how close to Potik that was...from looking at the link to the maps you sent, it is very close. They could easily be cousins. I know we have some relative name Paska. I need to concentrate on the Family Search links.
I sent a letter to the archives, via email and am waiting to hear back there too.

Thank you! I have the manifest but wasn't able to make out the mother's name...so thank you. One more missing piece in the puzzle!

Based on the surnames, I will assume your Immigrant Ancestors were Ukrainian Greek Catholics.
"Zalepie" was hamlet size and did not have its own GC Parish. The filial GC Parish was in Potok ! That is likely why selo/village Potok/Potik shows up in your oral family history.

Only very old Potok GC Church Registers (1835-1865) have been filmed:

When filling in the time gap, your druthers are limited to either making a direct archival inquiry or hiring a local to do the research for you. I can recommend someone, if you like.

Hi...Paska is the sister or cousin of Nicholas Zalepka...I believe! My Grandmother mentioned her a bit but couldn't tell me exactly how she was related, but she did say she was on the Zalepka side.
I tried to attach a photo of her, I have three, but was unable to.
I don't know her married name so that makes it tough to search here. I am thinking if I can get the passport applications from Newark, NJ that will help. I know Mary Muzyka, at least went back to the Ukraine for a two year visit.

Thank you! I appreciate your writing the names in Ukrainian. That is a big help for me, since I don't speak or write Ukrainian: Surnames: Muzyka = Музика - Zalepka = Залипка from Zalypya = Залипя
I learned from the Ukrainian Center in Somerset, New Jersey the following:

If you want to obtain birth, death and marriage records for your family, you should contact the regional archives in Ivano-Frankivsk. Here is their e-mail address: daifo@if.archives.gov.ua. You can write in English, but all responses will come back in Ukrainian.
I did get a response from them in Ukrainian, which I put into Google Translate and allowed me to get the gist of what they were saying. So I was able to write back with the information they needed. I am waiting now to see what they find.

You were not able to find her arrival manifest? She should show up in the census.
So possible that PASKA ancestor is also from this Potok, Zalipie or Czercze village.

Is PASKA the original spelling or Americanized just a little bit?
