Interested in corresponding with people who are researching the Schabert family. An alternate spelling could be Schappert. John M. Schabert, born 22 May l822, married Apologna (?). Both died in Nicollet Co., Mn., and had large family. Probable brother was Francis Schabert who married Margaret Majerus. Also lived in Nicollet Co., Mn. Their children included Anna, Theodore, Theresa, Frank S., and twins Emma M. and Nicholas F.

Hello:

There were/are Schabert descendants in this area(Dakota Co. Minnesota). They were from near Osweiler, Bech, and in that area of Luxembourg. The name is also frequently spelled Schaber/ Schaper. I am also pretty certain several Schaberts lived in the St. Paul, Mn area. I have some data of the local Schaberts and I know a teacher who is interested in doing some research. Contact me if interested.

Hello Bob:

Yes, am very interested in knowing more about the Dakota Co.,Mn., Schaberts. The St.Paul families you mention will include some of mine. Most of my family left St. Peter, Nicollet Co., to settle in the St. Paul area. Have made three attempts to contact you at your E-mail address. All have bounced back. Try me at hyacinth7@juno.com

Schapperts come from very near that area(Luxembourg). Do you have a town name or exact location from their European migration and I might be able to help.

Susan,
I am also researching the Schabert family in St. Peter, Nicollet, Minnesota. I am a descendent of Frank Schabert and Margareth Majarius through their daughter Theresa Schabert. Theresa Schabert was b.29 September 1860 in St. Peter, Nicollet, Minnesota. She m.Joseph Phillip Adelmann on 30 April 1878 in MN and d.26 April 1923 in Richfield, Hennepin Co., MN. All I know of her parents is they were b. in Luxembourg and I have no knowledge of her siblings. I couldn't find them in the 1860 census in Nicollet co. I'd like to see what you have.
Sincerely
Cassandra

I the historian for the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter, Minnesota. I am in the process of writing the parish history for the 150th anniversary. I am also a member of the Calvary Cemetery board, where several members of the Schabert family are buried. St. Peter had two catholic churches, the Irish St. Peter's Church and the German St. Mary's. Father Joseph Schabert was born in Le Sueur County, Kasota Township, and was baptized in St. Mary's also known as the Church of the Immaculate Conception. He was the only son of the parish to become a priest. It is interesting the Majerus link with the Schabert family. The last pastor of St. Mary's Church was Father Harry J. Majerus, were served from 1980 to 1991, when the parish was re-unified with St. Peter's.
I remember Catherine Schabert, who was active in St. Mary's, in the 1980's several priests from Africa would visit St. Peter in the summer, they would often stay at Mrs. Schabert's home on North Third Street.
Father Schabert served as dean of St. Thomas College in St. Paul, he died in 1968 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery in St. Peter.
