I am interested in finding the parents of my gr gr grandfather, Moses Lane or James Moses Lane, b. 1827 Carthage TN. They lived a short time in Smith County and then moved to KY. His father or grandfather might be Thomas Lane who married Nellie King. He named his children: William Allen Lane, James A. Lane, Thomas Casey Lane, Junius Wilson Lane, Drury Cloyd Lane, Elizabeth Jane Lane, Mary Ann Lane and Sarah Ladd Lane. Two children died at an early age, John H T Lane, and Greenwood Lane. Any help would be appreciated. My Moses came to IL about 1842 and died in Hamilton County IL in 1890. He married Sarah Minerva McMillan in 1849 in Williamson County IL. They lived in Belle Prairie Village in Hamilton County IL

Patrick Lane and Margaret Kennedy from Limerick Ireland

My grandfather used to post frequently in these forums in '99 and '00, searching for information on his g-g-grandfather, Patrick Lane. He has since passed on, but after stumbling across his postings and learning what he found out about our line of Lanes, I'd like to resume the search he started.

"I'm looking for information on my G-Grandparents, Margaret Kennedy and Patrick Lane, their parents and siblings. Margaret was born in County Clare, Ireland and Patrick in Limerick, Ireland, probably in the 1820s. They were married in Ireland by Margaret's uncle, Bishop Patrick Kennedy and they emigrated to the states in the 1850s and initially they resided in Alexandria, Va and later in Washington, DC. Patrick was a horse breeder in the South of Ireland and they reportedly emigrated because the English kept confiscating their horses. Margaret had a brother, Patrick Kennedy, who owned a grocery store in Washington, DC in the 1890s. Patrick Kennedy reportedly brought two of his other sisters (names unknown) over from Ireland to help run his store. Margaret may have escorted a relative to this country, a four year old by the name of Mary Flavin. Any information on the Kennedy and Lane families would be appreciated."

If anyone has info on Patrick and Margaret, this, please email me at wlane88@gmail.com. Thanks!

This is true and I have one in a family I manage, but it isn't worth the large number of near matches who are not related for me to explore fully each one. I wish them luck, and hopefully, they can find through adoption records, etc., what their surname should have been.

I do understand that some may want to try it.

I could not find either in the 1850 US census for Alabama. Do any Lane researchers have these Lane's ? Did they move here from Mississippi ?
Sherry, Do you have any more info on this family. My Lane relative is Moses Lane, born Carthage TN 1827, lived in Williamson County IL 1850-1855, appears on 1855 State Census, and between 1855 and 1860 moves to Belle Prairie IL, Hamilton County. I have had a DNA testing done and he is definitely in Group 3 where Drury and Daniel, Barney Lane are. I am trying to follow back through to Isham Lain today and thought you might have received replies from your querie. I am looking for the parents of Moses. Incidentally, he is also related to Williston Hollis Lane, son of John Williston Lane and Mary Ann Pennington Powers.
Scott,

This is your cousin Terry Lane. Barry recently provided me with some photos of William Logan Lane's and Reuben Lane's headstones from Buck's Cemetary outside of Newark, Independence County, Arkansas. I was doing some research and had a friend of mine help me in attempting to locate military records (Reuben's headstone shows him to have served in Co. D, 2nd Missouri L A (Light Artillery). My friend found the enlistment (09/1863)and service records for Reuben and his brother Mark Anthony Lane (died 04/1864). In continuing to research I queried the name William Logan Lane and came across your posts. I recently talked to Uncle John and he provided some interesting information re William Logan's wife, Mellie Wherry Fetzer Lane. My email address is lufkin48@yahoo.com.

Looking for descendants of Marcus J. and George N. Lane. George had three children, Ardella, Estella, and Garfield. I can not find any information about the two girls who were born in Illinois and moved to Iowa and then to Nebraska. The family eventually made it to Arkansas City Ks. and later lived around Newkirk Ok. Marcus J. moved from Illinois/Ohio to Newkirk and had two sons Logan, Roscoe and two daughters Bertha/Birtha and a daughter that moved back to La Salle County Illinois. Logan moved to Caldwell Kansas and Roscoe lived in Newton Kansas and later lived back in the Newkirk area and shows to have died in California in Contra Costa county.

I am looking for information to any of this family and I guess I should add that this family are the children of Mansel C. and Amanda "Evens" Lane of La Salle County Illinois.

Re: Presotia Lane or is it?

Hi, I think i can help you. My father's Paternal grandmother was a Lane. she was part of a large extended romany gypsy family from the cotswolds, herefordshire/gloucestershire. They would travel in the summer months picking hops and other agricultural labour jobs around the south of england then settle in some of the cotswold towns in the winter, especially Ledbury, Herefordshire.
Presotia is a romany girls name and so are many of the other christian names you mentioned 'Priscilla'. I have names on my fathers side like like Comfort, Prince, Lavinia, Jose-ridley, John-Henry.
Other things that give you clues about this are the occupations, things to look out for are; Hawker/pedlar, agricultural labourer, tinsmith, horse dealer, etc.
Lane is one of the most common gypsy names in the UK and there is a lot of info on the internet about them. Obviously I could be completely wrong, but when i saw the surname Lane that followed an unusual christan name alarm bells rang.
i am half romany from Darlington north east England a town that has a huge gypsy community. i know a lot about gypsy history and culture and if you think i may be onto something feel free to contact me with any questions you may have on jimmy.emmerson@hotmail.co.uk

james

Re: HORATIO GATES LANE of TN, IL, KY

I am trying to find out if Horatio Sr. had a wife during the 1820s that is not named. My gr gr grandfather is Moses Lane, born 1827 KY/TN. He named a son John H. G. Lane, and another Cloyd Drury Lane. Through DNA, I know he goes back to the Lanes in Ireland. I am trying to find his parents and think that possibly there was a marriage in about 1820 and would like to find out if that is true. I would like to correspond with anyone in this line. Also, is the H. G. Lane in Livingston KY 1860 census part of this family? Lynda Lane Miller
