Hi I have quite a bit about the Teenans. But a lot is missing. I have four children for James and Agnes, Morag, Dorothy, James and Gordon but that is where it ends. I have a huge amount of information from Janet Irving and Thomas Carlyle Barton. Do you have that, it was collected by Terry Stewart in Australia but I have lost contact with him.
I am decended from George Irving who married Thomasina Rae. I have all their information. As well the other brother who came to Canada was Robert Irving who married Jane Hutcheons. I have a lot of their information but am still tracking one of their sons. Robert Irving who went to Alberta.

I would love to hear from you

Margaret Irving Currie Ross.

Hi there Maggie
Many thanks for your reply. I am not sure if the family of the Irving you mentioned is related to me. My great grandfather was a Thomas Irving and his death certificate in New Zealand stated he was born in Jamaica about 1839. Family members in NZ thought that Thomas's parents came from Scotland. Do you know if William Bell Irving had a son named Thomas?
Thank you.
Cheers,
Rosemary
Hi,

not related to me some years ago when in all but name I ran an "Irving one name study" i peiced together some details of Dr William Bell Irvingb b c 1811 in Scotland or Jamaca, died Long Bennington, Lincs and had six children of a medical persuasion one of whom was Surgeon Major of the Canterbury Mounted Rifles who I guess is your ancestor. Have William's wife a Hannah b. Gosforth Cumberland, 1811 but there may of course have been a second marriage.

Cheers

John Irving in Leeds, UK

I wouldn't be able to give you any information from before that, however it sounds like the person you are describing is my grandfather. Donald Malcolm Irving born on 16-Nov-1929, in Saint John. We thought his birth mother's name was Janet Irving, however none of that information was confirmed as we have not been able to get any records on his adoption. The information I do know is that he was put up for adoption and the Lawson family did adopt him.
Name: Donald Malcolm Irving
Birth: 16 nov 1929 - St John, New Brunswick
Death: 16 Feb 1995 - Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada
If you have any additional information about him or his mother I would appreciate if you could pass it along.

Thanks

Chris

Thank you for all of your information - I will need to look into it - sounds very promising. I'm interested in looking at the family tree for Phoebe Ann Lowry that you described.

I did not receive any automatic "alert" when this message came up - found it by accident.

The occurrence of Phoebe Ann Lowry in the midst of all those Newburgh Irvings is interesting, because a "Phebe" (J or S) Irving (widow) appears in several Newburgh city directories starting in 1883 at the same address as my great grandfather John W. Irving, when he would have been 18 or 19. Earlier, in the 1860 census, a Phebe (J) Irving, born circa 1831, appears as the spouse of Robert W. Irving in Wallkill, just up the road, but I haven't been able to take it further than that. Robert W. and two children (Robert W. and Jesse B.) seem to disappear from records after that year.

The John W. (born 1864) and children from the 1910 census are of course my great grandfather and his brood, including my grandfather, Harry (nee Henry) H. John W's wife was Sara Leech (or Leach), who died in 1905. I have come across a Newburgh Jacob Irving but haven't been able to connect him with John W. to date. A Betsey Irving (age 40) appears in Hudson Ward 2, Columbia County, NY, as the apparent spouse of George Irving in the 1850 census, and a Caroline Irving, age 19, is listed along with two younger Irvings who wouldn't have been born when James Forman died.

To return to Phoebe Ann Lowry. After writing all of the above about Phebe Irving, which I'll leave for whatever it's worth, I found a very complete public tree for Phoebe Ann Lowry, which begins with birth in NY in 1839. The 1850 census lists her as the daughter of Philetus and Melvina, and born circa 1839 and residing in Barton, Tioga County, NY. She married F. D. Park, and died in Kansas in 1928. There is a Philetus Lawrey/Lowry in Delaware County NY in the 1840 NY census.
Rose Ago was born in Boston 1898. In her sister Alice's 1964 death notice it says she was then Mrs Rose Irving, living in Boston. She is in the SSDI with an 1897 dob.
She died in Atlantic Highlands NJ in May 1983. Any descendants out there? Any suggestions on how to get an exact date of birth so that I can contact the local library for a death notice?
Thank you, Maryann Flaherty

I am trying to find out the history and whereabouts (if any) of John B Irving, born in 1875 at Aldershot, Hampshire, England. He was the eldest son of Colonel J B Irving (1844--1925) who disinherited him in his Will of 1916 for reasons we have yet to ascertain.

John B Irving had a younger brother who became Captain Sir R B Irving, who commanded the Queen Mary in 1936 to achieve the so-called Hales Trophy/Blue Riband, the culmination of an extensive career at sea.

The eldest son John B Irving attended Queen Elisabeth Grammar School Ashbourne, Derbyshire with his younger brother, both as boarders, and the school leaving records indicate he went on to join the London & North Western Railway (LNWR). Thereafter he disappears. No trace found in any census return of 1901 and 1911.

In 1922 his father made a codicil in his Will instructing his second son to gift whatever monies from the estate that he saw fit, should his eldest son re-appear.

To date, he seems to have fallen off the planet. So any constructive suggestions would be most welcome and much appreciated.

Rupert Irving.
