To all my family history contacts interested in the Hollyer, Holyer and Hollier families
from Peter Walker
1. Happy New Year!
2. My new year's resolution is to write the third volume of history of these families. Since the last volume in 1998, I have had a lot of contacts, especially for Holyer and Hollier, so much needs to be recorded. Could you assist me by writing about your branch of the family - perhaps using material I may have provided to you or that we have discovered together? Are there some photos that would help bring the family history alive? (Volumes 1 and 2 in PDF format are available for download from the site - these should be accessible again now)
3. If you haven't visited my web site recently, do have another look, as it's been updated recently and can now be accessed by the much more memorable URL of:-
http://www.hollyer.org.ukand I can also be reached on
peter@hollyer.org.uk4. I have added a guestbook where you can share messages with others and leave enquiries. You could respond to this message there, if you like. Also there are links to other Hollier and Hollyer message boards. Let me know if there are other improvements you'd like to see.
5. Alternatively, would enough of you all be interested in joining a 'Reflector' or 'Exploder' List Server for Hollyer/Holyer/Hollier, if I were to set one up? If you haven't used such a list before, they work like this. You subscribe to the list, then all e-mail messages sent to the list get sent out to all subscribers on the list. You can see what others are doing with their research and what replies they get. You can join in if you have something useful to add. Or you can subscribe and introduce yourself to other researchers around the globe. Let me know what you think.
6. If you are one of the few I was not able to help when you first contacted me, have you started to do your own digging? If so, you may have reached back to a point where my data may connect, so get in touch again if you have something new to share.
7. To all the Holliers in Louisiana and the southern US states, I would really welcome any family trees you are able to send me so I can start to provide a more useful resource for this branch of Holliers. Gedcom files welcome!
8. On my web site you will see new links to related pages for Hollyer etc and links to other researchers. I would like to add your name to the list, but will only do so if you agree. If you do agree to be listed, could you provide a couple of sentences saying what name and line you are researching, so I can add this information, along with your preferred email address. Also let me know of any useful web pages you may run with relevant information.
9. And what about your own New Year resolutions? If you promised to send me more information and have never quite got round to it, can I prompt you to do so?
10. Apologies if you receive this more than once: some of you have more than one email (I have far too many!)
11. Please feel free to forward to any contacts you know. (
A very prosperous New Year to you all and happy ancestor hunting in 2001
