I personally do not know anyone researching Girt families in England but there may be some around here who are. I believe that my Girt line originates in either Germany (probable) or Switzerland. If my Girt line originated in Switzerland they were probably Swiss-Germans like another family line that merged with my Girt line a few generations ago.
The Girt surname may not have been the original form for this family name for my line. It looks like the English settlers could not pronounce the original surname so it was mangled into its current Girt form… which is one of the reasons none of us researching this line of Girt has been able to get further back than the middle to late 1700s in PA.
There are not a lot of Girt lines here in the US either; even today it is an unusual name here.
Good luck on your research. I hope you find people who can help you trace your Girt family.
