MELVERN R. TUPPER

A celebration of life will be held for Melvern “Mel” R. Tupper at noon Sept. 27 at the Tillamook County Fairgrounds, with a potluck luncheon to follow.

Mel was born Jan. 20, 1952, in Tillamook to Homes and Hope (Taylor) Tupper.

He passed away Sept. 11 surrounded by family and friends at the Hopewell House in Portland. He was 58.

Mel grew up in Tillamook and is a 1970 graduate of Tillamook High School.

He drove trucks for Tillamook Transfer, Jenck Farms and then for the Tillamook County Creamery Association for the past 28 years until his retirement in 2005.

Mel was very active in our community and donated many hours of his time. He was a member of the Tillamook Elks Lodge, the Tillamook County Rodeo Board for 17 years, Tillamook County Fair Board for 15 years, the Northwest Professional Rodeo Association, and served on the South Prairie Water Board.

Mel enjoyed helping his wife, Debbie, run their small horse boarding facility, horseback riding, camping, hunting, and visiting with his friends. He also loved helping anyone that needed help.

Mel is survived by his wife of 38 years, Debbie Tupper, of Tillamook; children Melissa Woods and husband Greg of Beaver, and Christopher Tupper and wife Tara of Salem; sister Virginia Porter of Palm Springs, Calif.; brothers Homes “Sonny” Tupper and wife Peggy of Portland, Richard Tupper and wife Jan of Madras, and Robert Tupper and wife Laura of Salem; and grandchildren Blake, Justin and Carrie Woods, all of Beaver.

He is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Virgel and Elizabeth Severns of Tillamook; uncles and aunts Peggy Tupper of Visailia, Calif., Jane Shilling of Arroyo Grande, Calif., Mary Brooks of Dallas, Texas, Rudy Wostel of The Dalles, June Wostel of Portland, and Dorothy and Paul Wostel of Tillamook; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Internment will be at Tillamook IOOF Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Waud’s Funeral Home.
